Building off last weeks blog article of why consider yoga nidra. Here we discuss where to start in developing the practice and what to consider. Please find 3 considerations for yoga nidra below:
Picture
  1. Length of Time: yoga nidra comes in varying lengths of time, typically in 15-minute, 30-minute, 45-minute or 60-minute recordings. It is generally best to start with less time when engaging in something new. Particularly if you do not often tune into the feelings and sensations in your body, a longer length of yoga nidra may be too overwhelming. Also, for anyone with trauma including complex trauma or sexual trauma, it is important to consider some support in starting a yoga nidra practice, and to trust your intuition and what feels right for your body and mind.
  2. When During the Day: It is important to find a time of the day that works best for you, for most people this is when they wake up in the morning or just before bed. When you are deciding on the time of day you should consider the reason of why you are starting the practice of yoga nidra. For example, if it is for sleep then it is best to do it before bed, and if it is for anxiety or waking up with a racing mind it would be better to do it in the morning.
  3. Finding the Yoga Nidra Meditation Right for You: There are many yoga nidra apps you can download, and on YouTube you can find a various selection. In addition, I have three sleep meditations that have yoga nidra within them, here is the link. Additionally, you may see some yoga nidra meditations also called NSDR, which there is a lot of similarities including NSDR is based in yoga nidra and hypnosis.

I have been working with parents for over 10 years. I have learned a great deal from them as well as from parenting my own children. It has taught me that parenting is the most trying job there is, requires the support of a village, and with the right supports can be truly rewarding.
