Recharging Before the School Year Ahead

​Are you feeling rundown from the busyness of summer? Have you been juggling a lot between social events, vacations, childcare, and camps? Do you feel like you need a moment of calm? Many parents are feeling this as we enter the last week of summer. Some parents have felt the added pressure to have this be a memorable summer after the past two summers of covid times. Below are some ways to find a bit more balance in this last week before school:

  1. Minimize. Be a minimalist in your scheduling. Say no to something, or ask for help that allows you to free up time.
  2. Let Go. Try to let go of the running to do list, or atleast the items that can be done in a couple weeks or months time. I imagine if you are reading this post you have already given thought and consideration to what needs to get done before school starts. Most likely you are already set with the majority of back to school essentials. If you are falling into the trap of overthinking connect with your breathing; also stay tuned for one of my September blog posts about quieting the overthinking mind.  
  3. Unplug. Take an opportunity to literally unplug from devices, phones, screens even if it is only for a short period of time. Every little bit counts, and the moments not in front of the screen are moments we can have more presence in the present.
  4. Do Something For Yourself. Even if only 5-10 minutes each day, ask you partner. Or if your kids are in care or camp, give yourself permission to 30 minutes of recharge time. Whether that is time sitting in the backyard, laying in a nature place, listening to a meditation, or going for a soothing walk. Provide yourself with the opportunity.
