This topic is one that resonates with me deeply. One of the ways I feel we connect with nature is through gratitude and appreciation of all that it provides us. Here are four ways we can engage in a gratitude for nature:
1. Meal Time Gratitude During family meals can each take a turn sharing one thing grateful that nature provides in terms of food. 2. Around Your Living Space Gratitude Whether you live in house, apartment or other dwelling. Taking a moment together with your child(ren) to either going out in the front/backyard or looking out the window and notice a part of nature that is enjoyable (e.g. bird flying by, green trees, blooming flower). And simple noticing and simple phrase of gratitude can have ripple effects. 3. Neighbourhood Gratitude Taking a stroll in the early morning or evening during these hot months can be a great start to the day or way to let go of the day. While on this walk noticing three or four parts of nature that you and your child(ren) enjoy. Can be simple things like the sound of the wind, the warmth of the sun, the snail or worm on the pathway. 4. Nature Walk Gratitude Taking some time together with your child(ren) to spend time immersed in nature. Finding some parts of nature to be thankful for, some ideas could be all the life that trees provide to animals and humans, and all that exists underground that supports the balance of life in nature. I hope some of these ideas are jumping off points for further exploration of ways to engage in nature gratitude with your child(ren)!
